Hartz Kitten Milk Replacer For Optimal Growth with Taurine

Directions

If possible, the newborn kitten should nurse on the mother for at least 2 days. The mother's first milk includes colostrum, which provides extra nutrition and short-term protection against some diseases. Hartz® kitten milk replacer can be fed to orphaned, small, or weak kittens from birth to 6 weeks old. Weaning: At 6 weeks old, you can begin to wean the kitten. Coax your kitten to lap the milk replacer from a shallow saucer by letting it lick formula from your finger. Once the kitten begins lapping on its own, mix solid kitten food with warm milk replacer and allow solid food to soften to a gruel. Thicken the gruel slightly each day by adding less milk replacer until the kitten is eating solid food. Hartz® kitten milk replacer can also be used as a food supplement for the mother while pregnant or nursing her kittens or for convalescing cats. This product is intended for intermittent or supplemental feeding only. Hartz® kitten milk replacer should be served warm (room or body temperature). Do not heat formula because milk may become too hot. To warm the formula, pour the desired amount into the Hartz® pet nursing bottle, and then place the bottle in a warm water bath. Before feeding, test temperature of milk by squeezing a drop on your arm. It should feel comfortably warm. Orphan kitten care tips: Never hold a kitten on its back when nursing. Rest the kitten on its stomach and hold the bottle at a 45 degrees angle from above while feeding. Sterilize the bottle and nipples before and between uses. Keep kitten warm and stimulate to go to the bathroom by gently rubbing its genitalia with a cottonball moistened with water (preferably before and after feedings). This is essential for its survival. When nursing, kittens should be weighed daily to make certain they are growing properly and to help gauge proper feeding portions. If the kitten develops diarrhea, cries constantly, fails to gain weight or becomes lethargic, consult your veterinarian. 1 jar = 95 teaspoons of powder.
