Store in a cool dry place. Storage and Handling: Brown sugar may harden when exposed to air for an extended period of time. To help prevent hardening, place soft brown sugar in an air-tight container. Store in refrigerator of freezer for prolonged storage. (Brown sugar will thaw rapidly). If you have brown sugar that has become hard, follow these directions to easily soften it: Remove sugar from container. Wrap it in a damp paper towel or cloth. Place in a small paper bag and seal. Microwave 2-3 minutes or heat in a 200 degrees F conventional oven for 20-30 minutes. Plan to use softened sugar immediately. It will reharden as it cools.
