Droll Yankees New Generation®. Specific designs to offer different foods. For sunflower seed and seed mixes, seed ports are designed to keep seed within reach. The UV-stabilized polycarbonate seed tube won't degrade in the sunlight. For Nyjer (thistle) seed, small holes dispense seed economically. Birds must pull seeds out. For peanuts, the strong long-lasting rustproof steel mesh forces the birds to take bite sized pieces of peanut, All three designs have a unique patented base which keeps seed within easy reach of birds. Removable caps allow thorough cleaning or tube replacement. Metal parts are squirrel resistant. The weight and design of the metal cap makes it difficult for predators to lift and reach the seed. Feeders can be hung or pole mounted on our Garden Pole (GP). Optional seed trays attach easily to catch spilled food and also provide extra perching space. Placement - birds feel vulnerable out in the open, so try to place your feeder near the safety of a bush or tree. If you're replacing an old feeder, leave it up until the birds become accustomed to the new one. It could take several weeks for these creatures of habit to feel comfortable at the new feeder. Water - birds need a regular supply of water for both drinking and bathing. When to feed - year round feeding is the best way you can help your feathered friends and get the most enjoyment from your feeding experience. During winter months, spring nesting, summer brood raising or short fall and winter days, you contribute to the birds' survival by offering feed. Seed- black oil sunflower seed attracts the largest selection of birds to your yard. Experiment with a variety of seed types to discover what different species enjoy. Nyjer seed will bring finches. When using peanuts, choose large nuts with clean, clear skins. Cleaning - please, for the sake of the birds' well-being, keep your feeders clean! Wash regularly in a 50/50 solution of hot water and white vinegar, rinse thoroughly and refill when completely dry. Dirty feeders spread disease. Birds' feet - birds' feet won't stick to metal perches in freezing weather because they have no sweat glands in them.
