Product Details
Brewing this ancient landrace whose genetics could inform the future of farming. Bere Barley 2013. Aged 10 years in oak casks distilled 2013. Orkney: Weyland and Watersfield, Muddisdale and Quoyberstane, St Ola. Westermill and the Northfield, Burray. Scottish barley un-chill filtered colouring-free. We have been working since 2005 to reintroduce bere alongside the University of the Highlands and Island's Agronomy Institute. This resurrections story is a triumph for the remote island ecosystem built around this grain on Orkney. Perhaps more importantly though, it is also a triumph for flavour seekers. Matured in our classic house style of ex-bourbon and ex-wine casks, the delicious, buttery texture or bere is unmistakably unique. No color added. At Bruichladdich, whisky is more than just a drink. It's a force for positive change. We use our uncompromising spirit to reconnect land, community, and dram for good. We step outside conventional whisky systems to champion agriculture, unlocking barley's diverse flavour potential and supporting farmers in search of positive environmental solutions. In this exploratory series, we pioneer three principles: the what, the where and the how of barley growing in Scotland. Bere barley is Britain's oldest continuously cultivated cereal. Once a staple for Scotland's distillers, it would fall out of fashion when more modern varieties were selected for yield, not flavour. Led by our unrelenting curiosity. Adam Hannet on behalf of Bruichladdich Distillery Company. Certified B Corporation. As an accredited B Corp, we are proud to meet the highest standard of social and environmental performance.
