Family made - quality foods. The Life and Times of Uncle Ray. Chapter 9 my first job. At 12 years old, I had a job after school working at Johnson's Store. I learned to work the cash register, cut meat and dip ice cream. The Johnson family was very dear to me and Mr. Johnson's oldest son Ben became my role model. Oh, how that man could sing! He sounded like Nat King Cole when he sang 'Pretend You're Happy When You're Blue,' and 'Mona Lisa.' He really enjoyed his job. From Ben I learned about responsibility and taking pride in a job well done. Every week like clockwork I rode my old bike to the bank where I diligently put my pay in my savings account. I've still got my old bank book. It shows earnings of $435, which came in handy later in life. But the biggest benefits of working for Mr. Johnson are the memories of working with people I respected and learning the life skills that I still practice to this day. Responsibility. Doing my work to the best of my ability. Working with others toward a common goal. Enjoying the present and saving for the future.
