Prayer of Peace. A small box to hold jewelry, notes, treasures - the sculpture atop the lid is a daily reminder of peace and calm. I wanted this figure to be a humble piece, but very centering, calming, peaceful with a universal gesture of meditative thought. The surface of her dress is carved with textures and patterns of living natural forms. Even though this is a quiet piece, I wanted the imagery to be very alive with movement - to have an inner energy of life. Artist Susan Lordi hand carves the original of each Willow Tree figure from her art studio in Kansas City, Missouri. This piece is cast from Susan's original carving, and then painted by hand. Expression is revealed through gestures only - a tilt of the head, placement of the hands, a turn of the body. The simplicity of form and the absence of facial features signify Willow Tree.
