Cooking instructions: Stove: 1. In a saucepan, bring water to a boil*. 2. Stir in brown rice**. 3. Cover, reduce heat and simmer 40 minutes or until water is absorbed. Cooking instructions: Microwave: 1. In a 2 quart microwave-safe dish combine 2-1/2 cups water with 1 cup brown rice*. 2. Suggested cooking times. Cover and microwave on high for 5 minutes. Reduce setting to medium high, microwave for 30-40 minutes. Let stand for 5 minutes. *Cooking measurement chart. Servings (3/4 cup cooked): 5 - 9 - 14: Rice: 1 cup - 2 cups - 3 cups. Water: 2 1/2 cups - 5 cups - 7 1/2 cups. Yield: 3 1/2 cups - 7 cups - 10 1/2 cups. **Add margarine and salt, if desired. For drier rice, use 1/4 cup less water. For moister rice, use 1/4 cup more water. ***It is recommended that only 1 cup rice be prepared in the microwave at a time. Microwave ovens vary. Cooking times are approximate.
