The water connects us all. Years ago while hiking in the Blue Ridge mountains, I found it fascinating to find springs to get fresh, sweet water straight from the ground. This started a life long desire to support clean water initiatives. My wife Heidi and I were able to act on these ideas when we bought a farm in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Nelson County, and we worked to develop sustainable practices that would protect our springs and creeks. Since then, we've opened two breweries, base camp and outpost, both located within the 64,000 square mile ecosystem of the Chesapeake Bay Watershed. The idea for striped bass began on an island in the middle of the Chesapeake Bay while fishing for stripers, "let's brew a great beer for a day on the water while simultaneously committing to help 'save the bay." In 2012, we teamed up with the Chesapeake Bay Foundation and along with our distributor partners, we donate a portion of the proceeds of sales to help restore water quality throughout the watershed.
