How to cook with wood chips on a gas and electric grills: (1) Soak 2 to 3 cups of chips in cold water for at least 30 minutes then drain. Use more chips for larger cooks and roast. (2) Wrap soaked chips in aluminum foil and poke holes on top to allow the smoke to escape. (3) Turn your grill on high and close the lid. (4) Wait for the chips to begin visibly smoking and position your food on cooking grate. (5) Add more chips as needed. (6) Place food on the grill immediately and keep covered for maximum flavor. How to cook with wood chips for smokers and charcoal grills: (1) Soak 2 to 3 cups in cold water for at least 30 minutes then drain. Use more chips for larger cooks and roast. (2) Light your charcoal. (3) Wait 30-45 minutes until charcoal is cover by a light gray ash. (4) Add one to two handfuls of wood chips to the charcoal and position your foods on cooking grate. (5) Add more chips as needed. (6) Place food on the grill immediately and keep covered for maximum flavor.
