Big Daddy's Hot Water Cornbread Cornbread, Hot Water

10 pieces [16 oz (1 lb)]

Directions

Cooking Instructions: Deep frying (best method): keep frozen until ready to use. Do not thaw. Heat cooking oil to 350f. Add frozen hot water cornbread to the oil in a single layer. Do not overcrowd. Do not shake the basket or pan until cornbread has formed a crispy outer layer. Maintain 315-350f cooking temp. Cornbread will begin to float after 6-6.5 minutes of frying. Let the cornbread cook for approximately 1 more minute, then remove from oil. Total cooking time is around 7-7.5 minutes, or until cornbread is golden brown. Let cornbread rest and cool for around 5 minutes before eating. Cornbread will have a crispy outside with a soft and moist center. Air Frying: Set air fryer to 400f. Spray each piece with a light layer of non-stick cooking spray or oil on both sides to help them crisp. Cook for 10-15 minutes, flipping each piece halfway through cooking. Times and temps may vary depending on your air fryer model. Baking: Begin by preheating your conventional oven to 475f. Set the desired number of pieces of cornbread on a baking sheet at least 1 in. Apart. Spray each piece with a light layer of non-stick cooking spray or oil on both sides to help them crisp. Let the pieces sit on the pan for 10-20 minutes or while the oven preheats. Bake the cornbread (flat side down) for 15-20 minutes or until the pieces turn golden brown on the bottom. Flip and bake for another 5-10 minutes until the tops are golden brown as well. Cooking times may vary with each oven. Try it with BBQ, grilled meats, seafood (fried, baked, or grilled), fried chicken, chili, beans, greens, soup, gumbo, or just by itself as a snack!

Product Details

Original hand-made recipe. Crispy! Buttery! Savory! Create as a side item to any dish! Fry! Air fry! Bake! Buy it! Fry it! Try it! The story behind Big Daddy's Hot Water Cornbread: Even though many people throughout the south have grown up with some version of hot water cornbread, we often find people who have never tried it and are unfamiliar with it. So, simply put, a basic hot water cornbread can be made by taking hot water (hence the name) and mixing it with corn meal and flour to make a thick dough/batter. This batter is then formed into the desired shape and fried in either oil or grease. Big daddy's hot water cornbread is hand-made in South Arkansas, with each piece having a visible three finger indention on the top where it was hand-patted down. It goes from the freezer and directly into the fryer. It comes out with a crispy outer shell, and a moist center that is almost like grits or polenta. It has jalapenos, onions, and butter to create a savory side item for any dish! www.oldhickorysaucecompany.com.
