The difficult thing with establishing a winery and having the Taylor temperament is that you don't want to do things by halves. Bill Taylor in 1969 bill Taylor senior purchased 440 acres of farmland on the banks of the Wakefield river near the historic township of auburn in the Clare valley. Inspired by the great wines of Europe, and with an unshakeable belief in the terroir of the Clare valley, he had a vision to create great cabernet sauvignon that would rival the world's best. Bill Taylor senior's bold decision to look beyond the preferred style of the day to plant the vineyard and base the winery solely around premium cabernet sauvignon table wine, was greeted with incredulity by many. Three generations later, the imagination and wisdom of bill Taylor senior's original vision have not only been vindicated; they are indeed one step closer to fulfilment. Wakefield the visionary is an exceptional cabernet sauvignon crafted from the very finest fruit grown by and available to the Taylor family.
