In 1797, the Spanish crown bestowed upon Fernando Fernandez the land that would become Hacienda Santa Ana, in Bayamon, Puerto Rico. Hacienda Santa Ana was one of the largest haciendas on the island, focusing on sugar cane production. During the next century, rum was produced at the hacienda for personal consumption of the owners and friends.
