Our Traders have always admired anyone described as 'a character,' and by all accounts, George Crum was not only a character...but a feisty one at that. As chef at the Moon Lake Lodge in Saratoga Springs, New York, he simply didn't take criticism well. During one warm August evening in 1853 when a customer returned limp French fries, complaining that they weren't crisp enough, George fried thin slices of potatoes so sarcastically crisp that he was sure the customer would keep quiet. Far from offending the diner ... a new snack sensation was born. For our potato chips, we wanted to travel back to this simpler time when small batches of the finest sliced potatoes were kettle fried by hand. Fortunately we discovered a family of potato purists who have been making the best kettle chips in Ohio for over 25 years.
