Considered to be one of the largest owls in the world, the Eurasian eagle-owl is an impressive and majestic bird, with distinctive, prominent ear-tufts and vivid orange eyes. With one of the largest ranges of any eagle-owl, the Eurasian owl can be found across much of Europe, inhabiting rocky cliffs and patches of woodland. A stealth hunter. Owls have developed special feather adaptations that enable them to minimize the sound made when flapping their wings. With most birds in flight, air rushes over the surface of the wing, creating a gushing noise that can scare off prey. The leading edges of an owl's primary feathers have fringes that help to reduce turbulence. Downy feathers cover the surfaces of the wing to further reduce sound. Conservation actions work.
