For use between rooms, a walk-through gate makes it easy to walk from room to room with no need to reinstall it each time you pass by. Choosing the Right Safety Gate. Pressure-Installed Gate. How it works: Pressure-installed gates are wedged into place by pressure against the doorframe or walls by use of properly installed wall cups. Where to use it: Pressure-installed gates provide flexibility in usage around the home. Wall cups stay installed to the wall while the gate can easily be removed for periods of non-use. Pressure-installed gates should be used only where falling isn't a hazard, such as at the bottom of the stairs or in a doorway separating two areas with same-level flooring. Never use pressure-installed gates at the top of stairs. Hardware-Mounted Gate. How it works: Properly installed hardware-mounted gates are the most secure type of safety gate. This type of gate is installed by screwing brackets into a doorframe or framing behind the walls. Where to use it: Hardware-mounted gates can be installed at the top of the stairs. When installing one in this location, be sure that it swings toward the landing, and not out over the stairs. Adult assembly required.
