Troubleshooting: Problem: No power: Possible cause: Parent units: Unit is not turned on. Batteries are dead. Solution: Turn the unit on. Replace batteries or plug in adapter (see "monitor setup" on page 6). Child unit: Possible cause: Unit is not turned on. Adapter not plugged in Adapter plugged into outlet which is turned off. Solution: Press ON/OFF button. Plug in adapter. If outlet is controlled by a wall switch, be sure switch is turned on. Problem: Hissing sound. Possible cause: Parent unit is turned on, but child unit is off. Solution: Leave child unit plugged in and turned on at all times (or if you turn it off, turn off parent unit also). Problem: Static or interference. Possible cause: Units set to different channels. Appliances (fans, hair dryer, or mixer for example) causing interference. Cross talk from cordless phone or some other nearby transmitter. Child unit not receiving power. Batteries are low. Solution: Set both units to same channel. Try turning off any nearby appliances or switching channels or moving the monitors away from source of interference. Try switching channels. Make sure adapter is plugged in and outlet is receiving power. Replace batteries or plug in adapter. Problem: Noisy feedback (high-pitched "screech"). Possible cause: Units too close together. Volume too high. Solution: Be sure parent unit is at least 3 feet from child unit. Lower volume setting on parent unit. Problem: No sound or very weak reception. Possible cause: Unit is getting little or no power. Out of range. Antenna is not vertical or is covered. Units are set to different channels. Weak batteries. Volume is set too low. Solution: Parent unit: replace batteries or plug in adapter. Child unit: make sure adapter is plugged in and outlet is receiving power. Move parent unit closer to child unit (and be sure child unit is turned on). Be sure antenna is straight up and not obstructed. Set both units to the same channel. Replace batteries or use ac adapter. Raise volume setting. Monitor setup: Parent unit(s): To operate with batteries: 1. Screw the antenna into the parent unit. 2. Loosen screw to release the battery compartment cover. Then lift the cover off (for easier access, rotate belt clip away from battery cover.) 3. Insert three AA batteries. Position them so the + and - contacts are aligned with the corresponding contacts on the battery compartment. Make sure the ribbon is placed under the batteries to allow assistance in removing. 4. Place cover back on battery compartment and secure it by tightening screw. 5. When it's time to change the batteries, the power indicator light will turn red. Replace batteries with three new AA batteries at that time. To operate with AC adapter: Insert AC adapter plug into the jack on the side of the unit, then plug the adapter into an electrical outlet. Monitor use: 1. Slide the channel A/B switch on the child unit to either A or B. Turn the unit on by pressing the ON/OFF button. 2. Turn the parent unit ON/OFF by rotating the volume switch. 3. Slide the channel selector switch on the parent units to the same channel as the child unit (A or B). For the monitor to work properly, both units must be set to the same channel. 4. Turn the volume dial on the parent units counter clockwise to the desired loudness level. 5. Keep a parent unit with you. For best reception keep all units as near upright as possible. Range: The range of the monitor will vary with the surroundings. You may want to test its workable range by walking through your house and yard and listening for the volume and clarity of the sounds being transmitted. Using belt clip: Slide onto your belt or waistband. The belt clip can rotate away from the battery compartment for easy access to batteries. Changing channels: Always keep both units set to the same channel (A or B). If you experience interference or static with one channel, switch to the other on both units. Positioning antennas: If the child unit is wall mounted, antenna should be to the side. Lights: Here's how to interpret the lights on the parent units. 1. Power indicator: Light is green - both units are ON and the monitor is ready to transmit sound. Light is red - batteries in parent unit are weak. Replace with three "AA" batteries. Not lit - unit is not receiving power (see "troubleshooting," "no power"). 2. Three quiet sound lights: No lights lit - no sound from child unit (baby is quiet). Lights are green - quiet sounds (baby may be whimpering or talking). 3. One loud sound light: Light is red - loud sounds (baby may be crying or talking loudly). 4. Connectivity: Light is green - units are connected and the monitor is ready to transmit sound. Replacing batteries (parent units): Remove old batteries and see "To operate with batteries" on page 6. Quick start instructions: Please read the safety instructions on pages 2-3. Set up the parent units: Screw the antenna into the parent unit. Battery compartment is located on the back of unit. Unscrew to release cover lock. Install three AA batteries. Or, plug one of the AC adapters provided into each parent unit. Set up the child unit: Place the unit near your child (within 6 feet, but no closer than 3 feet). Position the antenna straight up. Plug in the AC adapter provided. Slide the channel switch to A or B. Press the ON/OFF button to turn on the unit. Use the monitor (parent unit): Slide the channel switch to the same channel as the child unit (A or B). Rotate the volume dial to turn on and adjust to desired volume level. Keep the parent unit with you and keep it positioned upright.
