Directions

Farro is easy to prepare and cooks relatively quickly. First rinse the grains, and then place 1 cup of grain with at least 3 cups of water. Bring to a low boil for 15 minutes or until "al dente" or chewy. Some people like to add a touch of salt while cooking.

Farro (pronounced FAHR-oh) is one of the oldest grains cultivated by humans, which was originally found in the fertile crescent of the Middle East and is now grown primarily in Italy. Like Quinoa, (A South American grain favored by the Incas and also available from Nature's Earthly Choice) Farro is an ancient grain that is being rediscovered by chefs throughout Europe and North America. Pearled Farro (pearling removes the outer husk of the seed shortening the cooking time) is remarkably easy to prepare. Nature's Earthly Choice Farro is not only great tasting it is also a good source of fiber, as well as protein and iron. Pearled Farro is an extremely versatile grain making a great side dish when blended with spices and vegetables or Farro can be added to soups and salads. At Nature's Earthly Choice we particularly enjoy Farro for breakfast with a little maple syrup, (or honey) blueberries, and walnuts.
