Tummy Time is an important activity for your baby's development and is endorsed by the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP). Because the AAP recommends that babies sleep on their backs for safety reasons, babies need enough supervised Tummy Time duringthe hours they are awake to strengthen head, neck, and upper body muscles. Tummy Time helps to build the strength and coordination needed for rolling over, crawling, reaching, and playing. Month 1: From the day they come home from the hospital, healthy full-term babies can benefit from supervised Tummy Time sessions for short periods of time. Even though baby may not be lifting her head, a little bit of Tummy Time can go a long way. Month 2: By the second month, baby is able to see about 24 inches in distance and high contrast colors are visible. You may notice that she begins to slowly lift her head and may move it to one side. As she gets stronger, she'll begin to lift and hold her head steady in Tummy Time. Month 3: As baby begins to sleep for longer periods of time, Tummy Time becomes even more important. You'll likely notice that she can lift her head and turn it from side to side. As her head, neck and upper body muscles continue to strengthen, she will begin to push up on her forearms. Month 4: The fourth month of life is a cognitive and emotional turning point for baby. You may notice nonstop giggles and wiggles, and that she is able to lift her head steady and reach her arms out, almost as if she is swimming. This is a great indication of motor coordination. Month 5: Baby is on a roll! As she begins to roll side to side, you may notice shorter periods of tummy-down play. Keep baby engaged by placing toys nearby for her to reach and grab. Continuing to offer plenty of floor time play is important for letting her practice these new skills. Month 6: By month six, Tummy Time becomes more directed by baby. Encourage baby to practice rolling and moving while on their tummy and use toys to keep her motivated. Before you know it, she'll be able to rock back and forth on her hands and knees, gearing up to crawl in the coming months! www.sassybaby.com. Made in China.Nutrition Facts
