Please read and save these instructions: This product is not intended to diagnose or treat any health problem or disease and should not be used as a substitute for the consultation and advice of a physician or other medical professional. Thermometers should only be used under the supervision of an adult. This thermometer should be held during use; the patient should be seated or lying down during readings. Before use, it is recommended that the patient avoid eating, drinking, smoking or exercising for at least twenty minutes prior to taking a measurement. Never walk, run or talk during a measurement. Normal body temperature and fever: Body temperature can vary from 97 degrees F (36.1 degrees C) and 99 degrees F (37.2 degrees C) and still be considered normal. The medically accepted 'normal' body temperature is 98.6 degrees F. Body temperature is commonly lower in the morning than at any point during the rest of an individual's waking hours. Temperature readings will vary based on the body location point of the reading. Oral temperature readings between 97 degrees F (36.1 degrees C) and 100 degrees F (37.7 degrees C) are considered normal. A rectal temperature reading is generally 1 degrees F (0.5 degrees C) higher; while an underarm, or axillary, temperature will be 1 degrees F (0.5 degrees C) lower. A fever is defined as a body temperature that is elevated above the normal for that person. It is important to determine what is normal for an individual before determining if a fever is present. Tracking an individual's temperature on a consistent basis, at the same body site and at the same time everyday will help determine an individual's normal temperature. Fahrenheit celsius switchable feature: This unit takes measurements in both Fahrenheit and Celsius. While the unit is off, press and hold the power button. After the brief self-test, the unit will show the last reading in either degrees F or degrees C. Continue to hold the power button, and display will change the mode and display the new temperature reading mode. Release the power button and begin your reading. Memory recall: This unit includes a recall of the last measurement taken. When the unit is off, press the power button to turn the unit on, and release. After the self-test, the unit will briefly show the last reading with an 'M' on the display. Operating instructions: Press and release the power button to activate the thermometer. The unit will emit the appropriate animal sound and the display will show all of the digital display symbols as it performs a self-test before showing the last reading in memory. 'Lo' with a flashing degrees F will appear in the display, followed by a brief flash of 98.6 degrees F (37 degrees C); the display will return to the flashing Lo, indicating that the thermometer is ready for measurement. Oral use: 1. Apply a probe cover if using. 2. Place the probe under the tongue as near as possible to a heat pocket as noted in the diagram. Readings will be progressively lower the further the probe is from the indicated heat pockets. 3. Hold the thermometer in place during the reading; do not bite down on the thermometer. The mouth must remain closed to ensure accurate results. The reading should take approximately thirty seconds. 4. When the reading is complete and the peak temperature has been reached, the degrees F will cease flashing and the thermometer will beep. Reading below 100 degrees F (37.7 degrees C), i.e. normal-4 second dog bark, 4 second frog ribbit, 10 second monkey call Reading at or above 100 degrees F (37.7 degrees C), i.e. fever-4 second fast dog bark, 4 second fast frog ribbit, 10 second fast monkey call. 5. Position the arm across the chest to ensure the tip is completely covered. 3. When the reading is complete and the peak temperature has been reached, the degrees F will cease flashing and the thermometer will beep. Reading below 100 degrees F (37.7 degrees C), i.e. normal-4 second dog bark, 4 second frog ribbit, 10 second monkey call. Reading at or above 100 degrees F(37.7 degrees C), i.e. fever-4 second fast dog bark, 4 second fast frog ribbit,10 second fast monkey call 4. To turn the unit off, simply press the power button. The unit will automatically shut-off after approximately ten minutes. Remember, axillary temperature readings are generally 1 degrees F lower than oral readings. Rectal use: 1. Apply a probe cover if using. Apply a water-soluble lubricant for easier insertion. 2. Lay the patient on their side or stomach with their legs hanging down. 3. Gently insert the tip of the probe no more than 1 inch into the rectum. Stop immediately if you detect resistance. Always hold the thermometer in place during measurement. 4. When the reading is complete and the peak temperature has been reached, the degrees F will cease flashing and the thermometer will beep. Reading below 100 degrees F (37.7 degrees C), i.e. normal- 4 second dog bark, 4 second frog ribbit, 10 second monkey call. Reading at or above 100 degrees F(37.7 degrees C), i.e. fever-4 second fast dog bark, 4 second fast frog ribbit, 10 second fast monkey call 5. To turn the unit off, simply press the power button. The unit will automatically shut-off after approximately ten minutes. Remember, rectal temperature readings are generally 1 degrees F higher than oral readings. Probe cover use: Disposable, hygienic probe covers are recommended for use with stick thermometers to prevent contamination. Probe covers are intended for one-time use only; a new probe cover should be used with each application. Probe covers can commonly be found at your local retailer or can be ordered direct by using the attached order form. Remove the screw and slide the battery cap away from the unit. 2. Remove both batteries with a non-metal tool. 3. Replace the batteries with two LR1130 alkaline type batteries with the positive (+) side facing up. 4. Carefully replace the battery cap. 5. Do not dispose of used batteries in the trash.
