The Story of Fatwood: The pine tree, found in the southern United States, Caribbean and Central America, is a very versatile tree with myriad uses and strong regenerative capabilities. The Fatwood sticks come from the stump of the pine tree. Early settlers used Fatwood, rich with resin, to start their fires and even for candles, such was the intensity of their burn. At one time the stumps were left in the ground because their removal was too labor intensive. With the evolution of the forest products industry toward environmental responsibilty, now virtually every inch of the tree is utilized. The firestarting capabilities of this Fatwood are due to the natural concentration of resin in the stump of the tree. www.877noburn.org. www.pinemountainfire.com.
