Directions

1. Prepare. Adults preheat conventional oven to 350 degrees F. Grease baking sheet with butter, margarine or cooking spray. Kids be sure to wash hands. Cooking can be messy work. You might want to wear a smock or apron. Wash cookie cutters before use. 2. Mix. Kids combine 4 tablespoons room temperature butter or margarine, and 1 egg in medium bowl. Add sugar cookie mix. Stir well with fork until soft dough forms. 3. Shape. Kids place dough onto lightly floured surface and turn to coat both sides. Use hands, rolling pin or sturdy plastic cup to flatten dough like a pancake. Cut cookie dough into fun Hanukkah shapes with the included cutters! 4. Bake. Adults bake for 9 to 11 minutes or until edges are golden. Oversized cookies may require longer baking time while thinner cookies bake more quickly. Kids while you wait, practice designs on paper using crayons or markers. 5. Cool. Adults remove cookies from oven and cool on baking sheet 1 minute. Move cookie creations to rack and cool completely. 6. Stir. Kids in a small bowl, mix dry icing with 1 1/2 tablespoons water. Whisk with fork until smooth and set aside. For thinner icing, carefully add water 1 drop at a time - until you like the consistency. 7 Decorate. Adults place bowl of water and paper towel next to work area. Kids spread icing on cookies. Icing will harden after 15 minutes and dry completely in 30 minutes. When ready, wet brush and tap to remove excess water. Place tip of brush into part of one color on edible water color palette and rub gently to activate color. Paint your masterpieces!
