Hoe Cake Or Pone Bread: Mix one (1) cup of Arnett's plain meal with water, add a teaspoon of salt, (leave mixture soupy) and pour a thin layer into a hot, well greased frying pan. Allow to brown and turn Over. Serve hot. If making pone bread use less water and shape into pones. Cook in oven at 325 until brown. Corn Bread Or Corn Stick: 1 cup Arnett's Meal. 1 teaspoon Salt. 1/2 teaspoon Soda. 1 teaspoon Baking Powder. 1 cup Buttermilk. 1 Egg. 2 tablespoons Shortening. 1/2 teaspoon Sugar (opt.) Sift dry ingredients together. Add buttermilk, well beaten egg and shortening. Pour into well greased frying pan or corn stick pan. Bake in hot oven 350 about 25 min. or until brown. Can be made with sweetmilk but omit soda. Hush Puppies: 1 cup Plain Meal. 1/4 Cup Buttermilk. 1/2 teaspoon Soda. 1/2 teaspoon Salt & Pepper. 1/2 teaspoon Baking Powder. 2 tablespoons Minced Onion. MIX meat, onions, salt and pepper Dissolve soda in milk and add to meal mixture. Beat well and drop from spoon into hot fat and brown on both sides.
