Directions

Sort & Rinse: Dry beans, peas and lentils are natural agricultural food products. Despite the use of modern cleaning equipment, it is not always possible to remove all foreign material. Sort, remove foreign unwanted materials, then rinse under running water to wash away any dirt or dust. Soaking: Soak rinsed beans (and Chickpeas/Garbanzo beans) in water for at least 8 hours or overnight by adding beans in a pot; covering them with water by about two inches. For quick soak method, add rinsed beans in a pot and cover with water by two inches. Bring to a boil. Turn off heat and let the beans soak for an hour. Drain and rinse the beans with fresh cold water before cooking. Basic Cooking Instructions: Stove Top: Bring 4 cups of water and 1 cup of soaked beans or chickpeas to boil in a saucepan. Add 1 tsp. salt. Cover and cook on medium to low heat for 60-90 minutes or until desired tenderness. Add more liquid, as necessary. Drain and serve, or add to recipe. 1 cup dry beans or chickpeas yield 2-1/2 cups cooked beans or chickpeas. Store in a cool, dry place.
