Directions

To Color Icing 1. Start with enough icing to cover the entire area, as matching shades later may be difficult. 2. Dip a toothpick into the color, then swirl it into white icing. 3. Add color a little at a time until you achieve the shade you desire. Always use a new toothpick each time you add color to keep icing out of your jar of color. Blend icing well with a spatula. Hints: Royal icing requires more color than buttercream to achieve the same shade. Some colors, such as red, may require more color to achieve vivid shades. Color deepens over time, so adjust the amount added accordingly. For black or brown icing, start with chocolate icing to minimize amount of color needed. After use, store tightly sealed in a cool, dry place. If color dries out or is too thick, add a few drops of Wilton Glycerin to restore proper consistency.
